Blue Devil JV Girls’ Lax Finishes 12-3-1

May 24, 2023

The Huntington junior varsity girls’ lacrosse enjoyed a sensational season, compiling a 12-3-1 record and showcasing many talented young players.

Coached by Chiara Maimone and Ivano Naccarato, the squad consisted on 16 players. “Our team came a long way this season,” Maimone said. “We started out with a group of eighth graders who were not familiar with the high school players, but over time they built bonds and positive relationships with one another, which led to a successful season. Each of the girls individually have made progress in their skills levels and worked together as a team to support one another through both wins and losses.”

The top JV players included Grace Kline (41 goals), Grace Callery (27 goals), Shannon Koepele (26 goals), Ella Granito (26 goals) and Leighton Evans (25 goals.).

“We are hoping we get a good number of returning players for the 2024 season,” Maimone said. “Based on information from others in the Huntington lacrosse community, there is a likelihood that there is a large group of players that may potentially be coming up next spring. I would love to be able to improve our overall record even further and continue to be able to provide varsity with very strong future players.”

Huntington defeated Lindenhurst (15-11), Commack (9-1), Copiague (14-0), Bay Shore (13-7), Brentwood (14-0), Walt Whitman (7-1), Connetquot (16-8), Middle Country (15-9), Sachem East (15-4), Amityville (20-7) and Smithtown East (18-3). The Blue Devils dropped games to Northport (18-10), Cold Spring Harbor (12-3) and Ward Melville (9-4). Huntington and Patchogue-Medford played to a 5-5 tie.

“We had a very success season and we want to continue to improve our standing because we have the potential to be even better in the coming season,” Maimone said.
