May 15, 2023

The Huntington boys lacrosse team overcame a slow start to rally and come-from-behind to topple Sachem North last Friday night, 14-5. The Blue Devils completed the regular season with an overall record of 11-4.

Huntington trailed 2-1 after the opening 12 minutes before rallying to outscore the home team the rest of the game, 13-3. Yale University bound senior Anthony Annunziata (31 goals’ 14 assists) led the Blue Devils with three goals and two assists.

An extra-long bus ride due in part to Friday afternoon traffic and an accident on the eastbound Long Island Expressway interfered with Huntington’s usual pre-game warmup. Who knows if that was responsible for the Blue Devils’ slow start, but whatever caused it, as the game grinded on, the pace of play quickened.

Huntington took the lead in the second period and held a 5-3 halftime advantage. The Blue Devils ran away from their league foes in the second half, outscoring Sachem North, 9-2.

Tom Girimonti (25g; 19a) tallied three goals and an assist and Peter Breingan (15g; 1a) also scored three times in the game. Colin Lennon (23g; 13a) scored two goals and added an assist.

Huntington parade of scorers included Tyler Johnson (4g; 7a) and Thomas Smith (3g; 3a) who both had a goal and an assist. Georgetown University bound senior Aidan Carrello (7g; 8a) contributed three assists and scooped up four ground balls.

Senior Mikey Kline (16g; 29a) , who is headed to RPI had a pair of assists. Timmy McDonald (7g; 2a) also scored in the game.

Goalie SammyMac Arner was once again sharp in the game, stopping 13 shots. The Rollins College bound senior has recorded 156 saves this spring.

Last Friday’s win was Huntington’s fifth consecutive victory.
