Huntington Boys’ Lax Streaks Past Smithtown East, 14-6

The Huntington boys’ lacrosse team won its fourth straight game using a fast start out of the gate to topple powerful Smithtown East at Blue Devil Stadium, 14-6.
Smithtown East was coming off a stunning 11-3 victory over first place Ward Melville, but this day belonged to the Blue Devils, who opened a 4-1 lead by the end of the first period. Huntington extended its advantage to 7-3 by halftime.
Blue Devil head coach Julian Watts huddled with his assistants before addressing the team that gathered on the north end of the field. Watts gave the squad a motivational talk, urging them to continue playing hard to pull off the upset.
With the Huntington faithful squarely behind them, the Blue Devils went on to outscore Smithtown East in the second half, 7-3.
Tom Girimonti (22 goals; 18 assists) led Huntington is scoring with four goals. Colin Lennon (21g; 12a) had three goals and three assists. Anthony Annunziata (28g; 12a) scored twice and added four assists. Mikey Kline (16g; 27a) also scored twice and had three assists. Aidan Carrello (7g; 5a) had two goals and two assists. Timmy McDonald (6g; 2a) had a goal and an assist. Thomas Smith (2g; 2a) contributed an assist. Goalie SammyMac Arner made 13 saves and even had an assist. Arner has stopped 143 shots this spring.
The Blue Devils are finally clicking on all cylinders and could be a very dangerous team in the playoffs, which get underway with out-bracket games next Wednesday and quarterfinal contests next Saturday at 12 noon.
Huntington plays at Sachem North on Friday at 5 p.m. It is the final regular season game.
