Habitat for Humanity’s Color Run Inches Closer

May 9, 2023

It’s going to be one of the most fun events of the year, so no one should miss it. Best of all, it’s for a great cause. Huntington High School’s Habitat for Humanity chapter will hold the high school’s first ever “color run” on Sunday, June 18. Proceeds will support the building of the first ever Long Island Habitat for Humanity home funded by a school district club chapter.

The color run will be one mile long and held at Huntington High School. Everyone is welcome. Can’t run? Walking is perfectly fine. Not interested in walking or running? Then throw colors at those that are walking and running. All ages are welcome. There will be games and booths in addition to the run.

“June 18 is Father’s Day, so make sure to sign up with your dads, grandpas, uncles or anyone else to celebrate,” said junior Olivia Polinsky, who serves as the Huntington chapter’s president.

A “color run” consists of participants running a pre-determined distance as event volunteers throw colors at them as they pass. It has become a popular fundraising device.

Registration/check in on Sunday, June 18 will be at 9 a.m. The color run starts at 10 a.m. To qualify for a guaranteed t-shirt and color pack, participants need to secure at least $30 in donations by May 16.

“Any donation is greatly appreciated,” Ms. Polinsky said. “If you would like to participate in the color run, the registration fee is $30, which includes an event tee shirt and paint. Even if you don’t want to run, but have raised the $30, please come and support our runners/walkers! There will be games, booths and prizes. It will be a great morning!

Long Island Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes for Suffolk and Nassau residents in need. Habitat for Humanity believes that everyone, everywhere should have a healthy, affordable place to call home. When a family helps build or improve a place they can call home, they are also building a better community, and a better life for themselves.

“We ask businesses and families to support this great cause by donating a raffle basket, gift cards or merchandise from your business,” Ms. Polinsky said. “In return we will help promote your business at this community-wide event. If you cannot donate any of these items, we ask you to consider donating financially to our chapter.”
