Finley Softball Pulls Off Triple Play

May 4, 2023

It’s so rare that the players involved might never experience it again. The J. Taylor Finley Middle School softball team pulled off a triple play to close out a 10-5 victory at home against Candlewood.

With physical education teacher Jake Torres filling in as a coach for Marissa Bergmann, the victory saw nine different Finley players scoring runs in the game, including Tayor Peters, Sara Benitez de la Roche, Karina Rodriguez, Aubrie Godin, Bella Duke, Anastacia Mennuto, Mia Gulino, Khloe Graham and Eva Richter.

The roster also consists of Talia Hayden, Brianna Mata, Jaime Uvena, Genesis Banegas, Lily Buscemi, Millie Ciccotto and Jaylah Morgan Page.

Against Candlewood, Rodriguez took the mound and hurled all seven innings, striking out seven along the way.

Finley clinched the win with a game-ending triple play. Here is how it played out: Peters caught a line drive (one out) and threw to third to Duke to double off the runner (two outs); Duke then threw to Mennuto at first to catch the Candlewood runner off that base for the third and final out. A triple play. How about that?

“It was a great win; our first of the year,” Torres said. “The girls didn’t even realize what happened with the triple play. It’s so rare. We had a lot of fun.”

A big crowd turned out to watch Finley, which added to fun for players.
