Blue Devil Girls Top Sachem East on Senior Day

May 3, 2023

On a day that celebrated its three spectacular seniors, the Huntington High School girls’ lacrosse team burnished its offensive statistics and toppled visiting Sachem East at Blue Devil Stadium, 11-7.

The Blue Devils honored seniors Grace Agrillo, Laurel Bonn and Gianna Forte during a pre-game ceremony. Flanked by their parents, each of the seniors walked under a tunnel of lacrosse sticks created by their teammates as Huntington head coach Katie Reilly waxed poetic about what the teenagers have meant to the program.

The seniors were given bouquets of colorful flowers and they posed for photos with their parents and each other, enjoying the limelight on their special day. All three of the teenagers emotionally expressed what playing for the Blue Devils has meant to them.

Wearing a Huntington lacrosse uniform has meant everything to me. I wouldn’t trade the past five years for anything!

“Wearing a Huntington lacrosse uniform has meant everything to me,” Forte said. “I wouldn’t trade the past five years for anything! A huge thank you goes out to my coaches and teammates throughout the years for helping to turn me into the player that I am today. I am truly going to miss playing for Huntington.”

Forte is headed to Stony Brook University where she will reunite with her sister, Jordan and play lacrosse for the Seawolves.

“Wearing this uniform means everything,” Agrillo said. “My sisters also both wore this uniform all four years and both went on to have amazing college lacrosse experiences. It’s an honor and privilege to keep the family tradition going. Always a Blue Devil no matter where we go!”

Agrillo has been recruited to play on Binghamton University’s women’s lacrosse team.

“The feeling of wearing No. 6 on the lacrosse field for the past five years is indescribable,” Bonn said. “I have worked my way up the ranks on the varsity team starting as a small eighth grader with strong and influential captains like Paige Lennon and Abby Maichin, all the way to senior year as a captain myself. I will always hold this program close to my heart. So many memories, friendships, battles and laughs with this team.”

Bonn is valedictorian of Huntington’s Class of 2023. She plans to study biology at the University of Georgia in preparation for a career in dentistry.

The score stayed close in the game throughout the 50 minute contest. Huntington took a 7-4 halftime lead and stayed ahead throughout the second half.

Gianna Forte (29 goals; 18 assists) and Kayleigh Bender (34g; 24a) both tallied three goals and an assist. Bridget Callery (14g; 10a) and Grace Gordon (12g; 3a) both had a goal and an assist. Grace Agrillo (12g; 6a) , Jenna Italiano (7g; 2a) and Devon St. John (19g; 5a) also scored in the game. Eighth grader Andie DiGioia (70 saves) stopped nine shots in goal to record her ninth win of the season. Bonn, Reese Rinaldi and Isabella Palacios all starred on defense.

Following the game, Coach Reilly spoke again to the players and parents and presented each of the seniors with a gift bag. There were more hugs and tears. Several tables filled with food and drinks were put in place outside the field house as the team celebrated the seniors along with another great win.

No. 6, No. 10, No. 19 – no one will ever forget Bonn, Forte or Agrillo or the intensity they have brought to the field for the Blue Devils.
