Blue Devils Win on Rainy Saturday Morning
May 1, 2023
The Huntington boys’ lacrosse team battled through the elements on a stormy Saturday morning to edge Sachem East, 5-2. The Blue Devils played as good a game as possible considering the heavy rain that fell throughout the day.
Huntington’s three first period goals were all it would need on the wet morning. The Blue Devils led 4-0 at halftime and the team’s defense stymied Sachem East throughout the second half.
Huntington faceoff specialist Anthony Annunziata (19 goals; 8 assists) and Timothy McDonald (4g) both scored two goals. Colin Lennon (16g; 8a) had a goal and an assist. Tom Girimonti (18g; 18a) picked up two assists. Mikey Kline (13g; 22a) also had an assist. Goalie SammyMac Arner stopped eight shots and now has 105 saves this spring.
“It was a good team win,” Arner said. “Our defense played well.” Remarkably considering the terrible conditions, Huntington did most of the little things a team needs to do in order to win.
“We had a good team win as our defense played very well,” said Kline, echoing Arner. Head coach Julian Watts and assistant coaches Andrew Gutierrez and George Powers will need the defense to continuing playing well as the team looks to complete the regular season on a high note.
“We were able to get the job done once again, this time in some pretty ugly weather,” Annunziata said. “SammyMac in net and the defense played a great game once again only allowing two goals and the offense was able to produce enough goals to get a gritty win. We just have to keep working day by day to get ready for the county tournament.”
Huntington is 7-4 overall with four games remaining against Northport, Patchogue-Medford, Smithtown East and Sachem North. Huntington hosts powerful Northport on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. at Blue Devil Stadium.
