Blue Devils Honor Vocalist Isabella Lanfranco

The 55th Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony started off in grand style as Isabella Lanfranco sang a spectacular rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner,” a difficult song to sing by even the most talented and experienced vocalist.

Ms. Lanfranco has been a standout member of Huntington High School’s chamber choir. She arrived early for the awards ceremony and wasn’t fazed in the least to be singing solo before a crowd of 100 classmates, more than 50 coaches and 175 parents and numerous high school and district officials.

The “Star Spangled Banner” has tripped up some well-known singers. It requires an incredibly broad vocal range “including the ability to sing a vowel on the highest note of the piece - on ‘free’ - which physically strains the throat,” according to ABC News.

Ms. Lanfranco was able to master the song’s high pitched notes and challenging lyrics. The applause she received from the crowd was some of the loudest of the night.

The teenager is an athlete, too. She played on the brand new Blue Devil varsity girls golf team this spring and she was awesome. The key to her success has been self-motivation. She served as the chamber choir’s vice president and the Italian Honor Society’s treasurer. She plans to study fashion design at Savannah College of Art and Design.
