Southdown Celebrates its June Star Students

June 26, 2023

In the waning hours of the school year, Southdown Primary School took a short time-out to honor its June Students of the Month. The youngsters that were recognized didn’t let their “foot off the pedal” for a single minute, even as the hours grew short prior to summer vacation.

Principal Jill Amott-Erwig led the honorees know how proud she is of them and what a pleasure it is to recognize them with an award as they head off for a well-deserved break during July and August.

Southdown is the home of the dolphins, the school’s mascot. Students are awarded “splashes” for displaying positive behavior in the classroom and out and about the building, including being kind to others, demonstrating proper behavior in hallways and even boosting the spirits of someone feeling a little down.

Each month, one Southdown student is selected from each class in the building for formal recognition.

June’s honorees include:

Universal pre-kindergarten: Viana Cuiffo; Kindergarten: Giezi Alberto Avila, Ja’sir Parker, Maeve Szczurowski, Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez; First grade: Wesley O’Dwyer, Philip Dunne, Eleazar Amaya, Allison Jimenez Melendez; Second grade: Natalie Friel - Mrs. Hartough Jake Bradshaw, Madeleine Kelley; Third grade: Maria Redondo Escoto, Engels Santana Perez, Genesis Velasquez Aguilar, Kevin Canales

“We have had a great year at Southdown School,” Ms. Amott-Erwig said. “We wish everyone a safe, happy and fun summer. And don’t forget to read every chance you get.”
