Huntington High School Sparkles at Prom

June 26, 2023

Food, fun and friendship took center stage as Huntington High School students partied the night away at this year’s prom, which was held at The Mansion at Oyster Bay. Chaperones stayed out of the way as 332 teenagers had a blast the night before the commencement.

Class of 2023 faculty advisors Sarah Hall and Melissa Sorrentino along with a group of senior class officers planned the event down to the smallest detail. All the effort paid off as the event will go down as one of Huntington’s best proms ever.

“The prom was fantastic,” SammyMac Arner said. “The atmosphere was nothing but electric and kids who I never thought would bust a move, did. It was the perfect prom experience.”

Many of the prom-goers participated in pre-prom parties, where parents snapped thousands of commemorative photos. The teenagers arrived to the historic mansion in style and then posed for another round of photos taken by school photographer Darin Reed. No one seemed to mind.

The prom-goers spent the first hour outside on a terrace overlooking an 18 hole golf course. There were hot and cold appetizers and refreshments. Once ushered inside, it took about five minutes for the dance floor to completely fill-up. It didn’t empty for the next three hours as the DJ and the students fed off one another’s energy.

“As a student government officer, we’ve been planning the prom for a year now,” Neha Rathore said. “To see how everything came together was amazing. The venue, decorations, food, music and the event itself were all the best. I, along with everyone else, had so much fun and it was definitely a very memorable and exciting night. I’m so glad our prom was a great one and something I’ll always remember.”

The teenagers looked gorgeous and carried themselves with grace and maturity, enjoying four hours of fun. Dressed in fashionable business suits and tuxedos and beautiful dresses and gowns that ranged from modern day hip to traditionally elegant, the teenagers spent most of their time either on the dance floor or huddled with their date and friends.

“Prom was such a fun experience,” Nadeera Ali said. “The decorations were so cool and the set-up was nicely done. I had a wonderful and unforgettable night with my friends and peers. The spring rolls were absolutely fantastic; amazing food!”

Peter Gaal and Aislyn Franciscovich were voted the prom king and queen by their classmates and the pair enjoyed a quick spin on the dance floor by themselves before the rest of the crowd filled in around them.

“Prom was such a wonderful experience,” Yoselin Fuentes-Velasquez said. “I got to experience the time of my life and enjoy the last few moments I had with my classmates. Overall, I would recommend the rising seniors to attend their senior prom because it’s an unforgettable night. I thought it was very cute of the king and queen to have their dance and afterward the crowd joined in.”

Principal Brenden Cusack and Assistant Principal Gamal Smith stood off on the side along with faculty and staff members and marveled at the great time the prom-goers were having throughout the evening.

“Prom was the best experience ever,” Dawin Preval said. “We had fun and we made the best of it.”
