Blue Devil Athletes Capture Suffolk Gold Keys

June 20, 2023

A group of 11 sensational Huntington High School athletes was presented with Section XI Gold Key awards at the 55th Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony in the auditorium on Thursday night

The Gold Key is the highest honor a Suffolk athlete can receive for sports participation. This year’s Blue Devil recipients include Joseph Algieri, John Acompora Miller, Talia Addeo, Matthew Armstrong, Brett Bender, Gianna Forte, Megan Donaghy, Justin Perez Castillo, Dawin Preval, Nicholas Seitz and Haileigh Smith.

Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky formally presented each recipient with a plaque and a small gold key charm. The Gold Key is a Section XI award emphasizing participation in interscholastic athletics while recognizing proficiency in performance. The award is presented at every Suffolk high school to students who have lettered in eight of nine seasons on varsity or junior varsity teams between their sophomore and senior years

“Our Gold Key recipients have left it all on the field and/or court during every contest of every season,” Mr. Polansky said. “They have distinguished themselves in the classroom and are well prepared for the rigors of post-secondary academia. They have served as great teammates, peer leaders and ambassadors to our school district community. They know that success is a result of hard work and grit, and not something that is simply handed to them. I am proud to have served as their superintendent.”

The 11 seniors came together for a photo to commemorate the occasion and their achievement.
