Finley’s Battle of the Grades Produces Thrills

The J. Taylor Finley Middle School PTA, administration, faculty and staff came together to successfully organize a week-long Battle of the Grades extravaganza. The competition was aimed at fostering school pride and teamwork among the different classes through a series of engaging challenges. Parents were even able to participate in a hallway decorating contest.

The challenges included showcasing the best grade spirit, identifying popular tunes, solving Rebus puzzles, guessing candy names, demonstrating Blue Devil pride and highlighting grade unity.

The seventh grade class started off strong, winning the title for the best spirit, but the eighth grade quickly caught up. However, it was the teachers who ultimately made the decisive difference, propelling either grade to victory.

The climax of the week came during two thrilling showdowns: a gripping tug-of-war and an intense game of musical chairs, which filled the gymnasium with thunderous cheers and palpable excitement.

In the end, the eighth grade teachers emerged triumphant, leading their eighth grade students to victory and earning them a well-deserved reward; a delightful pizza lunch, generously provided by the PTA and Southdown Pizza.

“Battle of the Grades proved to be an exceptional week, creating cherished memories and establishing a tradition that the PTA hopes will endure for years to come,” PTA President Devon Perotti said.
