Finley Girls’ Track Replenishes Ranks
June 9, 2023
The J. Taylor Finley Middle School girls’ track and field team replenished its ranks and turned in very competitive performances in meets against Deer Park, Kings Park, West Babylon, Bay Shore, Elwood, East Northport, Oldfield and Brentwood.
Coached by Flower Hill physical education teacher Timothy Madden, the roster included 28 seventh and eighth graders. “I am proud of this team’s collective effort and enthusiasm for each other,” Madden said. “They pushed each other to be their best each and every day.”
Finley was led by eighth graders Justina Hlenski, Norah Moskowitz, Chelsea Drummings and Piper Davis.
“Justina excelled in all events, including the 55m hurdles,” Madden said. “Norah worked very hard each and every practice and it paid off on the day of our meets. Chelsea gave great effort and improved tremendously the last two seasons. Piper gave everything she had every day.”
Madden was pleased with how hard the athletes worked. “It was a pleasure to coach them this season,” he said. “I wish all of them continued success in everything they do.”
Ten eighth graders will be heading to the Huntington High School program next year to bolster the Blue Devils’ ranks. Eighteen current seventh graders are eligible to return next year for another season with the Finley squad. That has Madden believing the 2024 team could be a powerhouse.
“I’m looking forward to successful season next year with many returning athletes,” Madden said.
