Allan Wakefield Named Interim Director of Facilities

Huntington School Board members have appointed Allan Wakefield as interim director of facilities. The appointment runs from June 20 through November 1. Lead Operations Manager George Austin is retiring from the district at the close of business on July 3.
Mr. Wakefield has studied at Nassau Community College, SUNY Old Westbury and Long Island University. He served in the US Navy as a gun fire control technician from 1970-1974. He was director of facilities and transportation at Roslyn from 1988-1995 and at East Williston from 1995-2006. He served as director of facilities and infrastructure for the Central Park Coservancy from 2012-2017. He has worked as an interim director of transportation in both Westbury and Jericho. He has served as interim director of facilities in Hempstead since October 2018.
“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Wakefield into the Huntington School District community,” Superintendent James W. Polansky said. “He brings a wealth of relevant experience working in several districts, as well as tremendous skill in working with district administrators, architects, construction managers and others. He is excited to start and engage with numerous capital projects this summer.”
Mr. Wakefield prides himself on his ability to remain calm and work well in high pressure situations while possessing a genuine respect for personnel at all levels. He is constantly seeking new challenges and processing improvements and is a professionally driven individual with a strong work ethic and a desire to exceed expectations in all aspects of his profession.
Recognized as a motivator and mentor, Mr. Wakefield is an expert at aspects of state and federal administrative compliance measures as well as compliance principles and their application in an organizational setting.
