Huntington School Board members honored retiring faculty and staff members during a touching reception and at a later public meeting this past Monday night. Taken together, the group has combined to provide hundreds of years of service to the district and its students.

The contingent includes Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Acker, Lead Operations Manager George Austin, teachers Lynn Corsetti-Hendricks, Lorraine Costello, Suzanne Dinehart, Paul Esposito, Elizabeth Grobe, Dorene Karivalis, Joanne McGuinness-Tures, DonnaMarie O’Shaughnessy, Marybeth Stahl, Lauren Wesnofske and Maureen Yostpile, senior account clerk Janet Lentini, senior office assistants Frances Cangemi and Linda Ciccotto, office assistant Janet Winship, teaching assistant Kim Voyages, security guard Steven Muller and custodians Joseph Cassidy, Thomas Calderaro and Paul Vassallo.

A small reception was held for the retirees and their families in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School rotunda with light refreshments and desserts. The Finley ukulele club and its faculty advisor Frank Battista performed a set of well-received songs.

Superintendent James W. Polansky waxed poetic about each of the retirees, recalling personal anecdotes of encounters along with a general sense of what has made them so special and effective in their work over the years.

“I am privileged to have been able to work with these individuals, who have gone above and beyond for our students and their families through the years,” Mr. Polansky said. “They have served as pillars in the school community and will be greatly missed. On behalf of all in Huntington, I wish them the best of health and happiness in the next stage.”

During the public meeting of the Huntington School Board that followed, the retirees were recognized individually and presented with an Award of Appreciation plaque along with a bouquet of flowers.

The group of retirees are all looking forward to new adventures as they begin the next stage of their lives.
