Vincent Grassi Garners Saginaw Family Robotics Award

July 31, 2023

If Vincent Grassi isn’t already a technological genius he comes awfully close to being one. A key figure in the Huntington High School robotics program for many years, the Class of 2023 member plans to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute and study computer science.

Captain of the high school’s robotics team and an executive in last year’s Virtual Enterprise business program, Mr. Grassi has been a high achiever over the past four years.

An Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor, Mr. Grassi is this year’s recipient of the Saginaw Family Scholarship presented by Huntington Robotics, Inc. The $1,000 stipend was formally presented at the senior scholarships and awards ceremony in the high school auditorium.

The Saginaw family has enjoyed a long association with Huntington High School and the robotics program. Alums Joseph and Lindsay Saginaw were both stars in the program during their high school years and their parents were integral members of the program’s parent association.

“Huntington Robotics really pushed me towards being involved in STEM,” Mr. Grassi said. “There’s no other class or club in the school that prepares you for real life like robotics does. Mr. [Omar] Santiago is a great advisor. He truly wants everyone to succeed and find their passion.”

Mr. Grassi cited a handful of things as the key to his success, including time management skills and creating a priority list along with paying attention, working hard and striving to do his best in every class.

The teenager said he especially enjoyed the camaraderie he found during class time. Mr. Grassi said that’s what made trying hard feel easy and learning feel exciting.

A gentle and respectful young man, Mr. Grassi has always been popular with his classmates. Vice president of Huntington’s Italian Honor Society chapter, the teenager was inducted into five separate academic honor societies.

Named a Distinguished Senior last spring, Mr. Grassi played for many years in the Blue Devil boys’ soccer program. He helped lead his Virtual Enterprise company to a fourth place finish in the national marketing competition.

“I really loved my experience at the high school,” Mr. Grassi said. “Thank you Huntington for giving me all the resources to succeed. I can’t wait for the future.”
