Brett Bender Prepares for a New Adventure
July 28, 2023
Brett Bender has been a great teammate at Huntington High School, playing on the varsity football, wrestling and lacrosse teams. The Class of 2023 member was among a select group of 11 graduating seniors who captured the Suffolk Gold Key Award after playing in a minimum of eight of the nine athletic seasons during the course of grades 10-12.
Mr. Bender’s loyalty to Huntington; the Blue Devils; his teammates and coaches will never be questioned. The teenager loves his community and he loves his country, too. He has enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to serve America and do his part in keeping it free.
“Brett is the most coachable players I’ve had in a long time,” said Julian Watts, Blue Devil varsity lacrosse coach. “He is a no-nonsense type of player and will anything his coaches ask. He committed to preparing for the his senior season, but was sidelined due to injury. He didn’t miss a practice or workout. He was an extension of the coaching staff and manager. Brett has a ‘lunch pail’ attitude and there is no job too big or small for him. I know for a fact he will be successful in his future endeavors.”
Despite injuries, Mr. Bender always gave the Blue Devils his all. He has been a gritty, determined and hard-nosed athlete in all three sports, never failing to give 100 percent to his teammates and coaches. His dependability has been prized by everyone.
