Huntington’s Class of 1970 Presents Twin Scholarships

July 21, 2023

Fresh off its 50th anniversary reunion, Huntington High School’s Class of 1970 presented twin scholarships in the amount of $1,970 each to Class of 2023 members Vito Aloe and Victoria Befumo.

Huntington Class of 1970 members Kevin Chase and Diane Nigro were on hand to present the two scholarships before a crowd of 300 at the high school’s senior scholarships and awards ceremony.

Mr. Aloe intends to study aeronautical science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. Named a Distinguished Senior in recognition of his outstanding academic record, he said the key to his success has been putting his head down and getting to work along with discipline and a strong work ethic.

The teenager earned varsity athletic letters with the Blue Devil football and track and field teams. Mr. Aloe studied in BOCES Wilson Tech’s aviation science/flight program.

Inducted into six different academic honor societies, Ms. Befumo plans to study graphic design and photography at Temple University in Philadelphia. She, too, was named a Distinguished Senior. She said the key to her success has been her extensive support system, including her friends, family, teachers and classmates.

President of Natural Helpers and Grandfriends, vice president of Habitat for Humanity and publicist for the Key Club, Ms. Befumo garnered a variety of awards and honors for her photography. She engaged in a credit bearing internship with local professional photographer Darin Reed.

Class of 1970 members raised funds for the scholarships in conjunction with its 50th anniversary reunion.
