Huntington SEPTA Recognizes Seniors With Awards

Huntington UFSD’s SEPTA chapter presented continuing education awards to Class of 2023 members Grace Agrillo, Martin Newman, Josiah Paulemond, Joshua Redick and Anna Safonte. Each of the awards includes a financial stipend of $500.
Ms. Agrillo has been recruited by Binghamton University to play on its NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse team. Mr. Newman is headed to Farmingdale State College. Mr. Paulemond intends to participate in New York State’s ACCES-VR program to study for a career as a surgical technician. Mr. Redick will be attending High Point University. Ms. Safonte plans to pursue esthetician studies.
The awards were presented by department director Diana Rich during Huntington High School’s senior scholarships and awards ceremony.
“These students were chosen because they exemplify core values of perseverance, leadership and dedication,” Ms. Rich said. “These students have overcome challenges, achieved academic success and are identified as positive peer role models throughout the school and greater community.”

“SEPTA recognizes that students have a broad range of learning styles and abilities,” according to the organization. “We aim to support existing or innovative new programs so that each child’s educational experience is maximized. SEPTA sponsors a variety of events as well as unique activities for all children.”
SEPTA raises the bulk of its funds at an annual gala traditionally held at the Bay Club each spring.
“SEPTA members collaborate and strengthen partnerships among the district’s staff and serve as a resource for parents and teachers,” according to the group. “Throughout the school year, SEPTA holds informal meetings or Coffee Talks for parents to connect. SEPTA also hosts presentations, inviting speakers who address an array of relevant topics.” All SEPTA meetings and presentations are free of charge.
