Danielle Mendikyan Captures Music Awards

Senior Danielle Mendikyan captured the Huntington High School Award for Overall Contributions in Music along with the John Philip Sousa Band Award. Each of the scholarships carried $300 stipends. She also received a music dictionary.
A member of five separate academic honor societies, Ms. Mendikyan was named a Distinguished Senior following four years of classroom excellence.
The teenager attributes her success to participating in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, choosing subjects that interest her and striving to do her best on school assignments.
Ms. Mendikyan said she most enjoyed all of the musical opportunities she given throughout high school, including the Blue Devil marching band, the high school’s wind and jazz ensembles, Tri-M Music Honor Society and the orchestra pit during the drama club’s musical productions.
The Blue Devil marching band’s clarinet section leader, Ms. Mendikyan also served at Tri-M’s secretary. She tallied a perfect score of 100-out-of-100 in the NYSSMA Level VI on piano. She handled public relations responsibilities for the French Honor Society.
The teenager got her start in Huntington UFSD at Washington Primary School, where she excelled in every possible way and displayed her musical skills even at such an early age.
Ms. Mendikyan plans to study music education at SUNY Potsdam’s highly regarded Crane School of Music.
