Fabulous Five Capture Science Honor Society Awards

Five fabulous Class of 2023 members have won this year’s Huntington High School Science Honor Society awards.
Department Director Teresa Grossane presented $1,000 awards to seniors Talia Addeo (University of Tennessee Knoxville), Laurel Bonn (University of Georgia), Laura Curtin (University of Connecticut), Sarah Krisch (Georgia Institute of Technology) and Haileigh Smith (Dartmouth College).
The teenagers were presented with certificates and checks for $1,000 at this year’s senior departmental awards and scholarships ceremony in the high school auditorium.
Ms. Addeo traces her success to “taking the initiative” to get involved with activities that interest her and relate to her future goals along with the support of family and friends.
Ms. Smith, the Class of 2023 saluatorian, said her time management and organizational skills helped produce her success along with “unwavering support” from her classmates and teachers.
Ms. Bonn, valedictorian of the Class of 2023, credits “grit and self-discipline” for her success. While it could have been easy to lose motivation and feel overwhelmed at times with so many things on her plate, she would remind herself of her purpose. She believes that giving up would only have let herself down along with those who support her.
Ms. Curtin points to a “creating a well-managed work-life balance for her success. She mixes a strong focus on her studies with time for friends and family along with “alone time” just for herself. She especially enjoys meeting new people, who add different perspectives and opinions to the conversation.
Ms. Krisch feels that following her interests and working hard to fulfill the high expectations she sets for herself; balancing collaboration with thinking independently and being creative have been the keys to her success. She has fostered very close friendships has made her high school experience worthwhile.
