Riley Ackerman Garners Appliance World Scholarship

July 7, 2023

Riley Ackerman loves being on the water so SUNY Maritime College is a perfect fit for the Huntington High School Class of 2023 member, who was presented with a scholarship by Appliance World.

Appliance World of Huntington decided it wanted to “give something back” to the young people of the community, so it reached out to the Huntington School District and offered to present a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior with an exemplary record of service.

Mr. Ackerman is interested in studying environmental sustainability or international trade with a deck license for maritime trade.

Named a Distinguished Senior for his sterling academic record, Mr. Ackerman is a thoughtful and happy young man. He said the key to his success has been his ability to balance academic responsibilities with sports and extracurricular interests. He especially enjoyed taking a wide variety of classes, making lifelong friends and creating memories with them and his teachers and coaches.

An active firefighter with the Halesite Fire Department and a Boy Scout, Mr. Ackerman was a key player on the Blue Devil varsity lacrosse team. The teenager has volunteered with a wheelchair lacrosse league for parasport athletes.

A family owned business, Appliance World opened its doors in 1992. It is located at 414 New York Avenue in Huntington village. The company also has a store in Oyster Bay.
