Juniors Invited to Apply Now for HHS Internship Program
january 30, 2023
Did you know that Huntington High School offers credit-bearing internships for seniors? The student internship program is designed to provide seniors with opportunities that go beyond the traditional academic classroom. Participants are provided with a challenging real-world environment, allowing them to experience all of the ins and outs of an assortment of career fields.
“During the year, students will pursue a career and develop a creative project,” according to a program overview listed in the high school curriculum guide. “ Participants will earn one academic credit for their year-long placement. Students are required to work under the supervision of their mentor and to maintain a detailed journal reflecting on completed activities and knowledge gained from their experiences.”
Students may choose to intern with a high school teacher or other professional in the building or they can engage in an internship outside of the school district to gain insight into a specific field they might be interested in.
The in-school internship: A student will intern with a teacher/mentor inside Huntington High School and will work with that individual in the classroom. This is appropriate for students wishing to pursue a teaching career or those interested in a particular field of study in which a teacher/mentor possesses an expertise.
The out-of-school internship: A student will intern outside of the school in an area or field of interest. Internships might include working within a retail establishment; with a professional such as a doctor, architect, lawyer, in a non-profit organization, etc.
The internship program is available to seniors, who earn one academic credit following completion of their respective internship. Interested juniors who would like to apply for a senior internship must complete an application by Friday, February 3. The online application can be found here:
