Finley Wrestling Sees Surge in Interest

The J. Taylor Finley Middle School wrestling team has seen a surge in interest this winter. The squad currently includes 43 seventh and eighth graders. It’s the biggest turnout for the mat sport in many years.

Finley is coached by Jon Oliveri and Jose Alfaro. Practices are held daily after school in the Finley gym. The team will wrestle a 10 meet schedule that is evenly split between home and away contests. The home matches will be livestreamed from the Finley gym on the Finley Blue Devil Sports YouTube channel.

The team includes seventh graders Jencarlo Alfaro, Nicholas Bartasi, Wilmer Benitez, Benjamin Burke, Edwin Caballero Reyes, Eduardo Chavez, Charlie Cirlincione, Alexander Colonna, Danis Jimenez, Cormac Driscoll, Kingsley Evans, Dante Francis, Christopher Granito, Logan Mazure, Grady Mindich, Jory Morgan-Page, James Moy, Jordan Neufville-Quezada, Benjamin Sheetrit, Brett Wilson, Shaquan Wilson, Griffin Zarcone, Constantine Panagacos, Jordan Aguilar, Ezequiel Saravia and Arturri Landau.

Eighth graders in the fold include Blake Bender, Steven Contreras, Jude Creegan, Nicolas Cuadra, Jack Larson, Caleb Lee, Jose Quintanilla, Yair Mario Redondo Ponce, Eduardo Reyes Flores, Eli Rodriquez-Guevara, Braedan Kline, Justin Feliciank, Wesley Previle, Jeremy Ramirez, Joseph Conklin, Colby Curran and Edgar Castro.

Finley opens the season at Elwood on February 8 at 5 p.m. Home meets against Copiague, East Northport, Nesaquake and Northport will follow along with away meets at Brentwood West, Oldfield, Kings Park and Hauppauge on March 24 to conclude the season.
