HHS Students Invited to Apply to National Science Camp

january 25, 2023

Huntington High School juniors and seniors are invited to apply now to represent New York State at the 2023 National Youth Science Camp. It’s a unique opportunity that should be carefully considered.

The National Young Science Camp is a science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) opportunity. The camp will provide daily lectures and seminars with leading scientists, directed studies alongside visiting and resident STEAM professionals and engaging activities in the natural, physical, computer sciences and creative arts.

The hybrid camp will be held June 19 through July 12 at Camp Pocahontas in West Virginia. Housing, meals, transportation and supplies are provided to participants at no cost.

The deadline to apply is February 28, 2023. Applications must be submitted online. More information is available at the National Youth Science Camp website, the New York State Education Department’s Youth Science Camp webpage or by contacting Nicole Marschilok, the New York State Selection Coordinator.

“Hosted in Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia since 1963, the National Youth Science Camp is designed to honor and challenge some of the nation’s rising leaders and provide them with opportunities to engage with STEAM professionals and participate in exciting outdoor activities,” according to a program overview.

Typically, two delegates are selected to attend camp from each state and the District of Columbia. In partnership with the U.S. State Department, international delegates also participate in the camp program. Past countries represented include Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago.
