Lauren Donaghy Lifts Blue Devils Over Brentwood

Junior Lauren Donaghy scored 14 points and added three assists to lift the Huntington girls’ basketball team over host Brentwood, 44-38.
Donaghy played a great game, connecting on two shots from beyond the three-point arc and scoring four points at the free throw line.
Huntington jumped out to an 11-5 first quarter lead and led at halftime, 17-11. The two teams battled to a 27-27 second half standoff.
Huntington eighth grader Ava McDonald had 10 points and seven assists. Gianna Forte scored six points and added four assists. Kayleigh Bender also scored six points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Jenna Italiano had six points and eight rebounds. Kaylee Smalling had two points.
The Blue Devils have been beset by injuries this winter with five different players missing a substantial number of games. Huntington has lost several close games by less than five points, including two by a single point.
Huntington plays at home tonight against Central Islip at 5 p.m. The Blue Devils travel to West Islip on Monday for a 5 p.m. and then return to play Half Hollow Hills East at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Games will follow with Copiague, Smithtown West, North Babylon and Northport.
