Proposal Developed for HHS Dance-a-Thon in April

If details can be ironed out, Huntington Key Club members hope to hold the high school’s first dance-a-thon in late April in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. It’s all in the name of charity; specifically helping the families of children who are battling a dreaded disease.

A proposal has been developed by students, who plan to join forces with Rachel’s Dance for the Cure on this initiative. The proposal is being circulated among school officials for their input and advice.

“Every year, Huntington hosts K-Factor, a fun filled event to raise money to help families struggling financially as their children fight for their lives at Stony Brook Hospital’s pediatric oncology facility,” states the proposal. “Through Huntington High School’s first dance-a-thon, we home to commence [this year’s] fundraising activities. Hosting an event to raise money/awareness for pediatric cancer will be a great way to get the school and community involved and make people even more excited for K-Factor.”

This year’s K-Factor talent show is scheduled for Saturday, May 13 with shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The dance-a-thon would be held three weeks earlier and give a jumpstart to fundraising.

Participants in the dance-a-thon would be asked to secure pledges and they would dance in teams or groups. Prizes would be awarded, too.

School officials are working to determine the availability of the facility on the dates suggested. This marks the debut season of the Blue Devil varsity boys’ and girls’ badminton teams, which will be utilizing the gym for practices and games.

Stay tuned for more information in the near future.
