Senior Koi Crowder Lives Life to the Fullest

january 13, 2023

Koi Crowder enjoys getting the most out of every day; the most out of life in general. The Huntington High School Class of 2023 member lives life the fullest in every possible way.

“A teacher who has really helped me is Mrs. [Gina] Colica,” the teenager said. “Although I only met her this year, she has really helped me with writing my college essay and making my senior year even more enjoyable. Another teacher is Señora [Clara] Galeas. She’s always been very supportive of everything I’ve done in the past two years.”

“Extremely creative” is an accurate descriptive term when it comes to understanding one of the fundamental aspects of Koi Crowder, who is able to boast of having many different hobbies ranging from crocheting to painting. “A way that I express myself is through my clothing and makeup and find it as another form of art,” the senior said. “I also love spending time with my friends and having dinner along with games at least once a week.”

My experience at Huntington High School has been like no other...I wouldn’t have been the person I am today without it and meet some of the best people who have inspired me to persue the things I love in life.

With college plans still not finalized, the teenager hopes to stay close to home. “I want to pursue a career in art education and eventually specialize in special education,” the talented Class of 2023 member said.

President of Huntington’s Genders and Sexualities Alliances and Art Honor Society, Koi Crowder is involved in many clubs and volunteer activities, both in and out of school. I do many clubs and volunteering inside and outside of school. The teenager has also performed with the Blue Devil marching band in each of the past four years and also participated in the Toms River, New Jersey based Emanon Winter Guard program.

The senior’s current academic schedule includes classes in Forensics, Project Adventure, Multicultural Literature and Holocaust Literature, Computer Science and Advanced Placement Drawing. “My favorite classes are probably Project Adventure and Multicultural Literature,” the teenager said.

Discerning your likes and dislikes and finding your path in life is all part of a person’s high school years. That’s one of the reasons Huntington has such wide ranging academic, co-curricular and extracurricular/athletic programs.

“My experience at Huntington High School has been like no other,” the teenager said. “I wouldn’t have been the person I am today without it and meet some of the best people who have inspired me to persue the things I love in life.”

A person’s college years seem to pass just as fast, if not even faster than those of high school. Before you know it, a teenager is all grown up and out on their own supporting themselves.

“In 10 years I dream to be able to come back to Huntington’s very own Flower Hill School and become a fine arts teacher for K-3,” the senior said. “I would also love to continue my career in the performing arts.”
