Every Day is a Great Day to Learn at Woodhull

january 5, 2023

Woodhull Intermediate School Principal Stephanie Campbell has been promoting the concept that “every day is a great day to learn at Woodhull.” That’s never been truer than in the first days of 2023.

Woodhull’s mascot is an American bald eagle. It’s aptly fitting for a school that has stood tall since it opened for the first time in late January 1967.

“The Founding Fathers made an appropriate choice when they selected the bald eagle as the emblem of the nation,” wrote President John F. Kennedy in a letter to the Audubon Society. “The fierce beauty and proud independence of this great bird aptly symbolizes the strength and freedom of America.” The same can be said for the choice of mascot at Woodhull.

Every day is a great day to learn at Woodhull. It’s a sentence, sentiment and intention that aptly fitting for the new year.

“Our morning announcements begin with ‘good morning, Woodhull family’ and they end with ‘let’s make today a great day to learn at Woodhull.’” Ms. Campbell said. “I have been using the image of an eagle in flight in my weekly Parent Square messages with the tagline, ‘Together we soar’ and will be sending monthly highlight videos to share the great things that are happening at Woodhull.”

Woodhull’s December in Review highlight video (click here December in Review Highlight Video) and two short clips (click here Feliz Navidad Sing Along and here Rudolph Sing Along) demonstrate the spirit in the building. “We gathered as a whole school to sing holiday songs before the break,” Ms. Campbell said. “It was really great.”

I am excited for what we will continue to build together as a school community and for the opportunity to make Woodhull an even better place to learn in the future.

Woodhull has always been a school on the move. Some possible exciting renovations are in the discussion stage, including creation of an outdoor classroom, library upgrades and new furniture and display cases in the lobby area.

Ms. Campbell has been Woodhull’s principal since December 5. She earned an undergraduate degree at James Madison University in psychology and elementary education in May 1997 and a master’s degree at George Mason University in educational leadership in January 2005.

“Although I’ve only been at Woodhull a few weeks, I can already see that it is a wonderful place to work and learn,” Ms. Campbell said. “I am excited for what we will continue to build together as a school community and for the opportunity to make Woodhull an even better place to learn in the future.”
