Isabella Careccia-Johnson is one of the highest achievers in Huntington High School’s Class of 2025. The sophomore compiled a first quarter weighted academic average of nearly 105, but that barely scratches the surface of this exceptional teenager.
“I have had a great experience at Huntington and have connected with many teachers,” Ms. Careccia-Johnson said. “One teacher I feel extremely fortunate to have worked with is Ms. [Jenna] Merget for the past two years. She was the first teacher I met while visiting the high school. This was at the beginning of my freshman year. She has always supported and encouraged me through my art making process and I can always count on her for a good laugh.”
The teenager has also developed a close bond with high school social studies teacher Peter Crugnale as she has gone about studying with him in each of the past two years.
“Although I enjoy creative classes, I have always been passionate about law,” Ms. Careccia-Johnson said. “I hope to pursue a career as an attorney. I intend on earning my undergrad degree and moving on to law school.”
The teenager considers herself to be outgoing and easy to talk to. “I enjoy speaking out about things I am passionate about,” Ms. Careccia-Johnson said. In her free time she loves listing to music, specifically Taylor Swift and Lana Del Ray. She intends to play on the Blue Devils’ new varsity girls golf team in the spring.
Treasurer of the Art Honor Society and a member of the high school’s state runner-up mock trial team, Ms. Careccia-Johnson is on the staff of The Dispatch student newspaper. She’s a member of the English Honor Society and the Latin Club. She has volunteered at SCOPE’s summer music and art enrichment camp program.
Ms. Careccia-Johnson is taking classes in Advanced Placement World History, English 10 Honors, Honors Chemistry, Latin III Honors and Ceramics & Sculpture. “My favorite classes are Eng10 Honors and AP World History,” she said.
The teenager spent last summer working, going to the beach, babysitting and traveling to the New York State Fair in Syracuse.
“Overall I have had a positive experience at Huntington High School,” Ms. Careccia-Johnson said. “It has been easy to make connections with other students and faculty and I enjoy coming into the building every day. I’ve made many friends, such as Rafaella Gregorio, Anie Rimkunas and Ludo Cattano.”
Passionate about the arts and literature, Ms. Careccia-Johnson said she reads about 50 books during the school year.
“Ten years from now I will, hopefully, be pursuing a career in law,” Ms. Careccia-Johnson said. “The start of my law career will be challenging, but exciting! I hope to travel around the country, experiencing a new lifestyle and living in a different state. I hope that I will be thoroughly enjoying my 20s!”
