Finley Celebrates Veterans on Valentine’s Day
February 28, 2023
Honoring local veterans. The time is always right for it. So J. Taylor Finley Middle School’s Valentine’s Day efforts to recognize those who have served their country in uniform was timely.
Finley’s Junior National Honor Society chapter and the school’s art classes teamed up to thank area vets with handmade cards, sending love an appreciation to those who have served their country.
A creation station for students was established in the school library so anyone could stop in during lunch periods and make a card . Supplies for the cards were provided by Finley teacher and honor society faculty advisor Amy Hughes and school librarian Carmen DiBartolomeo.
From the Revolutionary War to this very day, Huntington residents have answered the call to battle. The graves of those who have lost their lives while in service to their country dot local cemeteries. There are many monuments throughout the town dedicated in honor to the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of every branch of military service.
“Special thanks to teachers Veronica Kennedy, Jessica Simms and Karen Morea for helping us complete our mission,” Ms. DiBartolomeo said. “The Town of Huntington will be personally delivering to the many veterans organizations within the town.”
