A Special Valentine’s Day at Washington School
February 27, 2023
Valentine’s Day was especially festive at Washington Primary School as students and teachers celebrated the 100th day of the 2022/23 school year on February 14.
“We celebrated by collecting 100 boxes of cereal to donate to the Helping Hand Rescue Mission,” Washington Principal Michelle Richards said.
Math teacher Leticia Cuthbertson took the lead in coordinating 100th Day of School activities. “We ran 100 yards during physical education; spelled 100 words using ‘Washington Primary School’ and so much more,” Dr. Richards said.
Students shared 100 things they love about Washington on a heart and posted them on the 100 Things We Love About Washington bulletin board. “We skipped and counted by fives and tens to 100 through the hallways,” Dr. Richards said. “Classes engaged in a little trivia by guessing how many items were in three jars. One jar contained red and white puzzle pieces. One contained had conversation heart candies. And another jar contained pink and white fuzzy hearts.”
The contest winners included teacher Ashley Pimentel’s kindergarten dual language Kindergarten class; teacher Diane Restrepo’s first grade dual language class; and teacher Vanessa Ulloa’s second grade dual language second grade class.
“The love of math was in the air on the 100th day of school at Washington,” Dr. Richards said.
