Junior Angel Villatoro Plans for Career in Engineering

February 15, 2023

Angel Villatoro is one of the top students in Huntington High School’s Class of 2024. The junior’s second quarter academic average exceeded 100. It’s little wonder he already has his eye on the possibility of attending New York University and pursuing a career in engineering

“Math and science are probably my strongest subjects and I enjoy them more than any other subject,” Mr. Villatoro said.

The teenager is a hardworking young man. He gets along well with his teachers and he’s popular with his classmates. Several teachers have played especially important roles in Mr. Villatoro’s experience at Huntington High School.

“Two teachers I would pick are Mrs. [Patricia] Avelli, whose passion for teaching math inspired me to try harder and also inspired me to continue my path in pursuit of a career in engineering and Mr. [Michael] Graziano, who always made geometry fun and exciting with his jokes and personality,” Mr. Villatoro said. “I always looked forward to seventh period geometry class with him every day.”

The junior is concerned with the here and now, but that doesn’t mean the future isn’t on his mind from time to time.

“I’m not exactly sure on which college I would like to go to, but NYU has caught my interest,” Mr. Villatoro said. “I intend on majoring in STEM and pursuing a career in engineering.”

While Huntington is home, the teenager hopes to eventually visit distant cities. “I love the idea of traveling and going to different parts of the world and would like to pursue that dream,” Mr. Villatoro said.

A member of the high school’s Math Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and New World Club, Mr. Villatoro is currently taking classes in Advanced Placement Seminar, AP US History, Chemistry Honors and Pre-Calculus Honors.

“It’s hard to pick my favorite classes since all of them are interesting, but I would say my favorite would be pre-calc,” Mr. Villatoro said.

During his free time, Mr. Villatoro likes to draw, “which calms me,” he said. His favorite thing to do is spending time with his family.

“My experience here at Huntington High School has been one of the best experiences I’ve had,” Mr. Villatoro said. “Throughout my three years at this school, I met friends and teachers who helped guide me to do better.”

The teenager used last summer to spend time with family members, enjoying lots of barbecues, “was extremely fun,” he said.

Where does Mr. Villatoro hope to find himself a decade from today? “In 10 years I hope to see myself doing something in STEM,” he said.
