Blue Devil Courtroom Team Wins Season Opener

February 9, 2023

Huntington High School’s revamped mock trial team out-argued visiting East Hampton to claim victory in the first match of the season. The 60-55 win played out before a crowd in the School Heritage Museum.

Huntington saw impressive performances by its returning attorney team of Angie Hernandez-Ramos, Isabella Careccia-Johnson and Nina Fascilla and first year Blue Devil witnesses Will Fallon, Natalie Parrott and Hillel Linker.

Ms. Careccia-Johnson set the tone for the match with a perfect delivery of the stipulated facts, which threw off the opposing attorney team right out of the gate.

Ms. Fascilla’s opening statement not only impressed the judge, but set the stage for the rest of the testimony that followed. Mr. Fallon gracefully handled the cross examination from a seasoned East Hampton lead attorney and was able to win multiple battles regarding debatable facts.

Ms. Parrott’s calm demeanor and consistency in her responses during both direct and cross examination not only stood out above all witnesses, but also made the judge smile in admiration multiple times.

Mr. Linker portrayed Huntington’s expert witness perfectly and his personality shined through giving the Blue Devils much needed style points.

It was Ms. Hernandez-Ramos who “sealed the deal” for the Blue Devils delivering a flawless closing statement addressing the law at hand, testimony from the trial and multiple metaphors for liability.

The Blue Devils are the defending Suffolk champions, but Huntington graduated many of its stars last June. The revamped team has come together much more quickly than expected.

After its season opening victory, Huntington is ranked No. 10 in the county and hoping to move even higher this week.

Huntington’s legal advisor is Blue Devil alum Xavier Palacios. Business teachers Bryan Outsen and Suzi Biagi are the faculty advisors.
