Finley Girls’ Basketball Tops Robert Moses

The J. Taylor Finley Middle School “blue” team easily bested visited North Babylon-Robert Moses in the season opener for both teams, 33-17 before a loud crowd in the Finley gym.

“We got off to a great start in the first period,” Finley coach Timothy Madden said. Justina Hlenski scored five early points and Gemma Bedell added four points in the first period.

“We continued playing very well in the second period,” Madden said. Madyn Kalb and Emma Barch dropped four points each while Ali Brady and Matison Kindelmann added two points apiece.

Finley led at halftime, 21-3. Moses rallied with some impressive shooting to narrow the gap in the second half. “We had great energy and enthusiasm,” Madden said. “I am looking forward to the what the rest of the season brings.”

Hlenski finished with nine points and Kalb record eight points. The crowd kept players pumped up throughout the game.

The Finley “blue” roster also includes Caleigh Camarata, Izabelle Colato, Mo’Naya Dennis, Khloe Graham, Mia Gulino, Julia Hotine, Jaylah Morgan Page, Andie Digioia and Emma Mortensen.

Finley “blue” takes its name from Huntington UFSD’s colors; blue and white. Finley has two teams in multiple sports with each being designated by Section XI as either “blue” or “white.” Double teams in other districts are named in the same many by their school colors.
