February 1, 2023

The Blue Devil boys’ track and field team is hitting it’s best stride late. The Blue Devils turned in some great performances last week’s League II championships.

Triple Crown winner Matt Armstrong won the 3200m run in 9:52 and then just 40 minutes later, passed teammate Kender Edouazin in the 600m for his second gold medal in 1:25. Edouazin finished in second with a time of 1:26 and junior Jahmar Francis was sixth in 1:27.

Senior Nick Seferian and junior Christian Delgado both earned All-League honors in the 55m high hurdles. Seferian finished third with personal best time of 8.38 seconds while Delgado in a personal best 8.43.

Junior Niko Lulewich continues to improve. He placed second in high jump with a leap of 5’8. One week later, he placed third in the Last Chance Meet with a personal best height of 6-feet. “We are excited to see that he is thriving in this sport,” said Ronald E. Wilson, Huntington’s head coach. “He’s a hard working young man that we are proud to have on our team.”

Junior Carmine Carusone on his last attempt threw the shot put 40’11 for fifth place earning All-League honors. Junior David Dje Bi earned a bronze medal by placing third in the 55m dash.

Huntington’s 4x200m relay team of David Dje Bi, Delgado, Guniel Elysee and Tyler Miles placed third in 1:38 earning All-League and the 4x400m of Seferian, Francis, Armstrong and Edouazin placed first in 3:38.

“There was a controversial call in the 4x800m relay, however, controversial as it was, our relay team of Tyler Godin, Dylan Proctor, Nick Seitz, and Ethan Goleski finished fourth, earning themselves a bronze medal,” Wilson.

Huntington finished fourth among the 10 teams competing, trailing only Connetquot, Commack and Northport.

The Blue Devils are ranked No. 1 in seven of 27 event categories in Suffolk and among the best in New York State.
