Jefferson School Courtyard Gets Refurbished
August 28, 2023
Sitting majestically on Oakwood Road, Jefferson Primary School has been providing youngsters in the community with a well-rounded education since September 1962. The students of today are just as energetic, happy and proud as thousands of their predecessors who have studied in the building over the past six decades.
When Jefferson’s students file through the school’s front doors next week for the start of the 2023/24 school year, they will surely be delighted to see what’s new at the building.
“Over the summer our school’s courtyard area underwent a remarkable transformation through an extensive refurbishment project,” Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide said. “What was once a neglected and overgrown space has now blossomed into a vibrant and engaging environment for students. Lush greenery lines the pathways, interspersed with colorful painted rocks and hidden treasures. The addition of picnic tables and benches allows students to actively participate in collaborative activities as a class; as well as fostering a sense of responsibility for upkeep of the garden-space and a true connection to nature.”
This central seating area, shaded by gorgeous old trees, provides a serene spot for outdoor lessons or quiet reading. “The refurbishment not only revitalized the physical space, but will also provide a rejuvenated spirit to the school community,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said. “Special thanks to our staff members, Laura Brite, John Farkas and Andrea Floro in addition to our PTA for supporting this project.”
