HHS Student Government Officers Plan for New Year
August 25, 2023
Huntington High School’s elected student leaders have begun working to set in place a series of events and activities they hope will lead to a burst of school and community spirit and just good old-fashioned fun.
“Everyone is very excited as this school year is about to begin, but for student government the process has already started,” said Nina Fascilla, who is the school-wide student government president as well as serving as president of the Class of 2024. “We chose our homecoming theme of ‘superheroes’ and planned out what the first two months of school are going to look like at the end of last year and have been prepping since then. “
Homecoming Day is set for Saturday, October 7. It will include a mid-morning parade through the village. The big day will be preceded by a bonfire and festival on Thursday night, October 5, to which the entire school community is invited. A pep rally for high school students is planned for Friday, October 6 at Blue Devil Stadium.
“We’re always looking to keep traditional Huntington High School elements into our ideas, but also try new things,” Ms. Fascilla said. “This homecoming season is looking to be an exciting one, as always. All of student government is working hard to bring the community together and radiate school spirit throughout the year.”
The officers from each of the four separate classes at the high school are brainstorming ideas and working to pull together proposals to present to faculty advisors and Principal Brenden Cusack.
“As a group, student government is so super excited for the start of the year,” Class of 2024 President Katherine Estrada Morales. “We’ll be helping out at the freshmen orientation and already have so many plans for homecoming since it’s coming up really soon.”
Huntington High School has always had an energetic student government and the 2023/24 edition seems to be a worthy successor of this long tradition.
“The Class of 2024 student government is super excited for the upcoming year especially for homecoming and all of our fun activities,” said Zaida Correal, Class of 2024 vice president. “We are really looking forward to meeting the freshman during orientation and showing them around Huntington High School!"
