August 14, 2023

The J. Taylor Finley Middle School fall sports season will begin on Wednesday, September 6 with football practice. All other teams will start the following day, Thursday, September 7.

Students can choose from among the following sports: Football, girls’ soccer, boys’ soccer, girls’ tennis, field hockey and co-ed cross country.

Tryouts will be held the first two or three days of practice from 3-5 p.m. Practices are normally held during the season from Monday through Friday from 3-5 p.m. Home and away games are scheduled throughout each week. The season will conclude on or about November 3.

Students should listen for announcements about team meetings and look for flyers posted around the building. Those interested in participating in the fall sports program need to be cleared by school nurse Kay Khohkar. Requalification will be available on Wednesday and Thursday, August 30-31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Finley nurse’s office. Students must present proof of a physical exam within the past 12 months and submit a signed interval health history form.

Students who want to get a physical exam by the school doctor can do so on Tuesday, September 5 at 8 a.m. in the nurse’s office. Students can also get requalified that day. Requalification opportunities will also be available on Wednesday and Thursday, September 6-7 during lunch periods.

Students can sign-up for sport teams during their lunch periods on the first two days of school. The football team will meet after school on Tuesday, September 6.

For information about taking a school physical or getting cleared/requalified for participation send a message to Mrs. Khohkar at kkhohkar@hufsd.edu.
