Cecilia Kye does many things well; academically, musically and athletically and she has the awards to prove it. The Class of 2023 member garnered multiple music department honors at Huntington High School’s senior departmental awards and scholarships ceremony.
A National Merit Scholarship Award finalist, Ms. Kye was one of the top seniors in the country this year. An Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, she aced all of Huntington’s most challenging courses and excelled outside of the classroom, too.
A member of eight different academic honor societies, Ms. Kye plans to study computer science at Northeastern University in Boston . She was named a Distinguished Senior last spring in recognition of her outstanding academic performance over the past four years.
Ms. Kye was presented with three separate and prestigious music department awards, garnering the Patrick S. Gilmore Band Award, Woody Herman Jazz Award and the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education’s Suffolk chapter scholarship.
A Huntington varsity fencing team mainstay, Ms. Kye was also the alto sax section leader and woodwind captain of the Blue Devil marching band. She served as the Environmental Club’s recording secretary, vice president of the Art Honor Society, president of the Math Honor Society and treasurer of both the National Honor Society and high school band.
Since beginning high school, Ms. Kye participated at one time or another in the Key Club, jazz band, wind ensemble, pit orchestra, Women’s Empowerment Club, Drum Major Academy, Port Washington summer band, robotics, Habitat for Humanity and various other initiatives, including capturing third place in her category for her National History Day contest group exhibit.
“Cecilia is a hardworking, enthusiastic and dedicated student,” said Andre Rizzuto, the Blue Devil marching band’s director. “Cecilia is always finding ways to lend a helping hand in any possible way. In addition, she is a character of excellence no matter what the task is. Cecilia is an exemplary student and individual.”
