Huntington Seniors Claim Teacher Scholarships

August 11, 2023

The Long Island Teachers Benevolent Fund has awarded Huntington High School graduating seniors Megan Donaghy, Aislyn Franciscovich and Haileigh Smith with scholarships.

LITBF is funded by the dues of NYSUT members and their locals. This year, $245 awards were available to graduating seniors who have at least one parent who is an active teacher with membership in a NYSUT local. Seniors are required to submit an application for the award.

Associated Teachers of Huntington President James Graber announced this year’s Huntington recipients at the high school’s scholarships and awards ceremony.

Ms. Donaghy is headed to the University of Connecticut and study biology on a pre-med track. She was one of Huntington’s volleyball and track stars over the past four years. An Advanced Placement Scholar, the teenager was recognized as a Distinguished Senior for her excellent academic record.

Ms. Franciscovich plans to attend Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and study studio art and computer science. President of the French Honor Society and Women’s Empowerment Club, captain of the marching band’s color guard unit and an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, the teenager was named a Distinguished Senior. A Blue Devil varsity fencing team member, she has won many art awards, too.

An Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor, Ms. Smith was the Class of 2023’s salutatorian. She intends to study biology at Dartmouth College as she prepares for a career as a dermatologist. Ms. Smith won varsity letters in volleyball, fencing and softball and was the county runner-up in fencing. She captured regional and state awards in the National History Day contest.
