Blue Devil Girls’ Volleyball Excited for Season

The Huntington High School junior varsity and varsity girls’ volleyball teams will take the court for their first practice on Monday, August 21 at 7:30 a.m. The Blue Devils will be practicing and holding their matches at Louis D. Giani Gym at the high school.

Todd Donaghy is returning as the varsity head coach. Huntington High School teacher Lauren Blackburn will coach the JV.

The Blue Devils will be led by sophomore Emily Barba, juniors Brianna Borenstein and Lauren Donaghy and seniors Kate Barba and Neurdia Osias. Several of players from last year’s junior varsity team are due for promotion and several other incoming freshmen will vie for spots on the varsity and JV teams.

Donaghy and Barba are two of Suffolk’s best players and both are coming off of great 2022 campaigns. An outside hitter, Barba tallied 115 kills; .289 hitting percentage; 143 digs and 46 service aces. A setter, Donaghy compiled 368 assists; 40 service aces and 65 digs.

Interested in playing for the Blue Devils? Girls’ volleyball players are asked to report to the high school nurse’s office on Friday, August 18 at 12 noon to get cleared/requalified for the fall season. Players need to have had a physical exam within the past 12 months.

Those volleyball players who would like to get a physical exam performed by the school doctor can go to the nurse’s office on Thursday, August 17 at 9 a.m.

Checklist for Tryouts:

All students must be requalified prior to tryouts for each sports season. The following two forms are to be submitted to the school nurse on one of the listed requalification dates.

1. Required NYS Health Examination Form (click for link)

Physical exams can be performed by private doctor or school doctor and are valid for one year.

2. Interval Health History for Sports Participation (English/Spanish) (click for link)

A new form is required for each season; must be completed by parent/guardian, signed in ink and dated within 30 days of the start of the season (July 23, 2023 or later).
