August 4, 2023
Koi Crowder and Joseph Algieri have captured this year’s Huntington High School alumni scholarships. The two teenagers were announced as the 2023 recipients by Principal Brenden Cusack at the senior scholarships and awards ceremony.
Ms. Crowder and Mr. Algieri were presented with $500 awards. Huntington High School has tens of thousands of alumni with the first class of six seniors graduating on Friday, July 18, 1862 at 2 p.m.
Ms. Crowder enjoys getting the most out of every day and the most out of life in general. She will be attending Molloy College. “I want to pursue a career in art education and eventually specialize in special education,” the talented Class of 2023 member said.
President of Huntington’s Genders and Sexualities Alliances and Art Honor Society, Koi Crowder was involved in many clubs and volunteer activities, both in and out of school. The teenager has performed with the Blue Devil marching band in each of the past four years and also participated in the Toms River, New Jersey based Emanon Winter Guard program.
“My experience at Huntington High School has been like no other,” the teenager said. “I wouldn’t have been the person I am today without it and meet some of the best people who have inspired me to peruse the things I love in life. In 10 years I dream to be able to come back to Huntington’s very own Flower Hill School and become a teacher for K-3. I would also love to continue my career in the performing arts.”
Mr. Algieri plans to play football and study business at Hartwick College. He said the key to his success lies in his consistency and persistence. Consistency helped him to stay on top of his work and persistence helped him get through challenges and setbacks.
An All-County football player and league champion wrestler, Mr. Algieri was a member of Huntington’s Italian Honor Society. The teenager also won honors with the Blue Devil Unified basketball team.
