Finley Boys’ Lacrosse Stays Competitive
August 2, 2023
This past spring’s J. Taylor Finley Middle School boys’ lacrosse team served as the vehicle to introduce many new players to the sport. The 34 player squad came together nicely and remained competitive throughout a 10 game schedule.
Coached by Travis Smith and Jonathan Oliveri, Finley was captained by Colby Curran and Blake Bender. “This team was a great mix of experienced players along with many new players, who were only now introduced to the sport,” Smith said. “They worked very hard and played well together. They progresses nicely and came together as a unit as the season progressed.”
Finley was led by the strong defensive play of Ryan Water, Patrick Hassett and Jack Larsen and sharp goaltending by Blake Bender and Cormac Driscoll. Luke Lomler, Aidan Collins and Constantine Panagacos also contributed to the defensive effort.
Midfield playmakers included Colby Curran, Jude Creegan, Finn Driscoll, Kieran Warren, Charlie Cirlincione, Ricardo Berry, Edgar Castro, Grady Mindich, Spencer Sturges, Jose Walter, Dylan Michaelson, Christopher Granito and Benjamin Burke.
Finley’s attack was led by Gannon Johnson, Kingsley Evans, Justin Cahn, Jeremiah Miler, Charles Rosselli, Grayson Banner, Alex Colonna, Christian Guandique, Zachary Matthews, Trevellyan Peters and Sha’Quan Wilson.
“They were hardworking and always put their best foot forward,” Smith said. “We have 18 returning players. These players had a great deal of experience this past spring and that will help the incoming seventh graders.”
