Homecoming Day Celebration on Saturday, October 7

August 2, 2023

Huntington High School’s Homecoming Day celebration will be held on Saturday, October 7. The Blue Devil football team will take the field against crosstown rival Northport at 2 p.m. for the weekend’s centerpiece athletic event.

The football game will be preceded by a late morning parade down Main Street through the heart of Huntington village and up New York Avenue to the Big H Shopping Center and along Holdsworth Drive into the school parking lot.

The entire school community is invited to participate in the parade, which will be led by the Blue Devil marching band. Hundreds of students, parents and teachers from every grade level participated in last year’s march through the village. Free bus service will be available between the high school parking lot and the town lot on Gerard Street.

The weeklong celebration is expected to include various special theme days. A Friday afternoon pep rally will feature varsity coaches introducing their players and performances by the marching band and the Highsteppers competitive dance team. Fall varsity athletic teams will be introduced to their classmates and teachers.

There are plans for a bonfire and festival on Thursday night, October 5 at the high school. The junior varsity and varsity football teams plan to hold a joint team dinner in the school cafeteria that same evening.

Halftime activities during Saturday’s football game will include performances by the Blue Devil marching band and the Highsteppers as well as the crowning of a homecoming king and queen and an announcement of the results of the parade float competition.

Last fall’s festivities drew more than 1,500 fans to Blue Devil Stadium, including many alumni of the school.
