Planning for Homecoming Week 2023 Continues
September 28, 2023
Planning continues for Huntington High School’s Homecoming Week festivities. Dozens of teachers and faculty advisors are involved along with Principal Brenden Cusack.
A festival and bonfire are set for Thursday, October 5 in the high school parking field. The fun begins at 6 p.m. with the bonfire being ignited at 6:45 p.m. All Huntington UFSD students and their families are invited to attend. There will be food, games and performances.
The bonfire is a throwback to yesteryear. Such events were common in the 1930s and 1940s when Huntington High School was located in the building that now serves as Town Hall. The high school used Heckscher Park for its large scale events and outdoor sporting events.
Dozens of school clubs and organizations are expected to participate in the Thursday night festival. Tables for participants will be set up on either side of the parking lot. Many will use the opportunity to raise monies to support their activities. The Huntington Booster Club and many other organizations will be on hand selling fresh food and refreshments. The Booster Club’s apparel trailer will also be parked nearby.
There will be a Friday afternoon pep rally at Blue Devil Stadium during which varsity teams will be introduced. The pep rally will include performances by the marching band and the Highsteppers dance team. Students will build four parade floats throughout the day behind the building.
Saturday’s festivities include a parade led by the Blue Devil marching band through the village beginning at 11:30 a.m. All are invited to participate. The Huntington football team will host Northport at 2 p.m. Halftime will see the Homecoming King and Queen crowned and the winning float announced.
