Resilient Huntington Senior Ella O’Heir Excels
September 27, 2023
Ella O’Heir is one of the most resilient and determined members of Huntington High School’s Class of 2024. The teenager is taking five Advanced Placement classes and is playing on the Blue Devil varsity field hockey team.
“I have loved Huntington High School so far,” Ms. O’Heir said. “All of my teachers have been understanding and patient and I know I can always go to them if I have any question. I love coming to school and seeing my friends every day.”
Those same friends love her, too. Ms. O’Heir is a popular, positive and happy young woman who has faced significant adversity and continued to excel. She earns very good grades and is a prized pupil by teachers in all of her classes.
Captain of the field hockey team, Ms. O’Heir plans to try-out for the second edition of Huntington’s varsity girls’ golf team in the spring. “I’m very excited to play golf and think it will be a lot of fun,” she said.
Naturally inquisitive, Ms. O’Heir is doing well across the board. “I am very excited to learn more in my economics class because I am finding it very interesting and it will be very useful in college,” she said.
Outside of school, Ms. O’Heir works just as hard. She holds down a part-time job year-round. “This past summer, I worked almost every day, but I also made time to go to the beach and see my friends,” she said. “I also learned how to surf, which was probably the highlight of my summer.”
The senior’s top college possibilities right now are Northeastern University and Fairfield University. “I am interested in studying business at either one,” Ms. O’Heir said. “I love Northeastern’s co-op program and Fairfield’s business school seems to be one of the top ones.”
