Huntington Golfers Swing Way to 4-0 Start

September 26, 2023

The Huntington varsity boys’ golf team has dominated its first four opponents this fall en route to a 4-0 record. The Blue Devils’ confidence is growing as it moves into a challenging stretch of the schedule.

Huntington has already topped Half Hollow Hills East (6-3), John H. Glenn (8-1), Commack (9-0) and Half Hollow Hills West (8-1).

Longtime head coach Michael Marinello and volunteer assistant Robert Colvin have teamed up to provide what has proved to be invaluable guidance and strategy advice to the Blue Devils.

“We scheduled some of the strongest teams in Suffolk to scrimmage early in the season,” Marinello said. “This has paid off as we faced a very tough Hills East team in our first match. We had to play great to beat them and the boys did just that.” Huntington shot a season low 195 to edge its foe by four total shots.

While the team as a whole has been nothing short of spectacular, a handful of players have emerged as standout performers. Blue Devil captains Nicholas Sclafani and Will Fallon are determined to make their mark on Huntington golf history. Declan Kehoe, Chase Gadaire, Thomas Girimonti, Jake Severine, Jack Corcoran, Brady LaCosta and George Mueger “have all demonstrated their prowess on the course, adding depth and versatility to the team,” Marinello said.

The coach pointed to his two captains and the leadership they provide daily as one of the reasons for Huntington’s successful start. “Their ability to motivate and inspire their teammates both on and off the course has undoubtedly contributed to the team’s outstanding performance,” Marinello said.

The Blue Devils are once again playing their home matches at the Huntington Crescent Club. “We are deeply appreciative to head golf pro Patrick McCarthy and the Huntington Crescent Club’s membership for their generous support,” Marinello said. “Their hospitality and encouragement have played a crucial role in our success.”

Huntington is prepping for a string of three upcoming matches that will test the squad and determine if the Blue Devils can remain undefeated. The battles will measure the team’s mettle and determination.
