Devon St. John Pursues Challenges with Enthusiasm

September 26, 2023

Devon St. John is always up for a challenge. She likes to test herself academically and athletically. The Huntington High School junior is one of the top students in the Class of 2025 and she is one of the best Blue Devil athletes, too.

“Everyone says that junior year is the toughest and I definitely have a pretty packed schedule this year,” Ms. St. John said. The teenager’s course lineup includes Advanced Placement Chemistry, AP US History, AP English Language, AP Pre-Calculus, and Latin 4 Honors.

The teenager is the chief executive officer of her Virtual Enterprise business firm this year. Ms. St. John is also senior editor of The Dispatch student newspaper and vice president of the Blue Devil Varsity club. She volunteers with the high school’s Key Club chapter and is a Natural Helper, confidentially assisting classmates as they work their way through challenging personal situations.

“It’s going to be a great year,” Ms. St. John said. “I am especially excited about my sports this year. Our varsity soccer team is making a comeback and our varsity lacrosse team will be a serious playoff contender this spring. I also might play basketball for the first time, which I’m super excited about.”

Popular with her classmates and teammates, Ms. St. John usually has a smile on her face as she makes her way around the high school. She displays a wonderful sense of humor and is a loyal friend.

“So far my experience at Huntington has been nothing but fun,” she said. “Balancing school, sports, extracurriculars and everything else makes it very busy, but so rewarding and such a great time.”

The teenager spent this past summer as the head lifeguard at a local country club. She also played a “ton” of lacrosse, showcasing her skills for college coaches and tuning up for her junior year with the Blue Devil varsity team.

Ms. St. John hopes to finalize her college plans sooner rather than later, but she hasn’t given a verbal commitment to any school just yet. She has her favorites, but intends to let the process play itself out.

“I’m currently in the recruiting process for lacrosse, so I’m keeping my options open and seeing how it goes,” Ms. St. John said. “I plan on majoring in political science or chemical engineering.”
