Sophomore Lily Wasoski Finds Her Groove at Huntington

Lily Wasoski is hoping to follow-up a spectacular freshman year at Huntington High School with an even better one as a sophomore. The gifted and talented teenager is already well on her way to doing just that.

“I’m interested in doing a lot of the honors ensembles such as wind ensemble and the a capella choir, as well as the play and the musical,” Ms. Wasoski said. “I’m also looking forward to (hopefully) joining the Tri-M Music Honor Society!”

Ms. Wasoski played the role of “Mrs. Mayor” in last spring’s high school musical production of “Suessical” and she was a hit. She has quickly become an essential member of Huntington’s drama club program.

“I’m especially excited for next spring’s musical because it’s just such a great environment and overall so fun to be a part of,” Ms. Wasoski said. The teenager has really hit it off with the other actors as well as the musicians and stage hands as well as director Michael Schwendemann.

“My experience at Huntington High School has been really great,” Ms. Wasoski said. “I’ve been able to do so many things that I just wouldn’t have been able to do at any other schools. For example, I’m the drum major for the Huntington Blue Devil marching band and so far it has taught me so much about leadership that I would’ve never known otherwise.”

The sophomore attended the well-regarded Drum Major Academy in Massachusetts this past summer. “It’s a leadership camp specifically for drum majors in marching band,” Ms. Wasoski said. “It was truly an unforgettable experience and I will never forget all the lessons I learned and the people I met.”

Ms. Wasoski is already kicking around ideas and sketching out plans for the future. “Later in my life I hope to become a musician, most likely a singer and perform classical pieces,” she said. “My main goal is to go on Broadway, but you never know where life might lead you. All I know is that I love music and that it’s my passion!”
